Uptick’s grammar lessons focus on the most prominent grammar concepts, such as parts of speech, prepositions, tenses, and conditionals, and they include both theory and practice. While we're well aware of the fact that grammar can be painful, correct grammar is key to speaking English fluently and confidently, and we promise to make it as painless as possible for your employees. Having a rich vocabulary is one of the key things that will allow your employees to become expressive English speakers. As part of these lessons, we help students do two things: First, we help them activate their passive vocabulary, which is made up of words that they easily recognize and understand, but aren’t able to effortlessly retrieve when writing or speaking. Second, we help them enrich their vocabulary with new words, idioms, phrasal verbs, buzzwords, and slang words that can make their language more dynamic, colorful, and interesting.

Each of the program’s American accent lessons will help familiarize your employees with new sounds and speech habits. A typical lesson involves work on tongue positioning when speaking, mouth muscles, and the ability to recognize and copy different sounds. We will teach them how to round their lips, drop their jaw, curl their tongue, and stick it out softly. In other words, we’ll teach them how to flex their mouth muscles in a way that they’re not used to, and by doing so, improve their accent and speaking clarity.

While the grammar, vocabulary, and accent lessons focus on developing technical skills and working with your employees to establish the tools to sound and feel more natural in English, the fluency lessons are built as a framework for effectively practicing and developing conversational skills.
